The Oswego County Humane Society will hold its 13th annual “Chasing and Fetching Balls (aka Golf) Tournament on July 22 with a tee-off at 1 p.m. at the Beaver Meadows Golf Club in Phoenix. The event, in captain and crew format, includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch at the snack bar at noon, beverages on the course, and a buffet chicken dinner.
UPDATE: An arrest has been made as a result of the investigation into a possible methamphetamine lab at 11 Gregory St. Oswego. Brenda L. Howard, 41, of 11 Gregory St., Oswego, was arrested and charged with the following: Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine in the 3rd Degree – Class D Felony. Police responded to the location in regard to an unrelated complaint. Upon investigation, officers developed information and later made observations, that would indicate that the location had been used for the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine.
The amendments would make it easier for the city to fine violators. One change would be to waive the third letter notice of violation. An appearance ticket can be issued if there have been two previous violations. Fines could range from $100 to $250.
This year’s Children’s Parade is sure to create a positive and exciting environment full of community support.
The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Breitbeck Park, a change from years past, but will be preceded by a variety of fun and family-friendly pre-parade activities. Starting at 10 a.m., Breitbeck will host the Entergy Nuclear Activity Tent, where children can enjoy free face painting, temporary tattoos, crafts and fun hands-on activities.
The city has entered into a construction contract with Joseph J. Lane Construction Inc., Syracuse, for installation of new stormwater sewers in all of the streets outlined within the accompanying map. The $4,824,888 project cost is financed with the assistance of the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation.
Each year more people in the United States die from extreme heat exposure than from hurricanes, lightening, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes combined. On average, about 300 people die each year from exposure to heat. The Oswego County Health Department recommends that everyone understand the warning signs of heat-related illness and take special care of those at risk.
The Oswego County Health Department announced Sunday that the David C. Webb Memorial Park Bathing Beach on Oneida Lake in the town of Constantia has been closed to swimming due to the presence of a blue-green algae bloom.
Preliminary information, supported by physical evidence at the scene, indicates that the fire was accidentally set by a juvenile in the residence. The juvenile apparently had inadvertently started the fire while playing with a lighter.
