Once again, Entergy Nuclear will sponsor the “Fireworks Spectacular by Grucci” and highlight the festivities of Oswego’s Harborfest, New York State’s premier admission-free festival. The fireworks are synonymous with Harborfest and are even a part of the logo for the festival. The “Fireworks Spectacular by Grucci” seems to get better with each passing year and there is little doubt that the 26th version of this world class display will be the best yet.

With headliners Foghat and Blue Oyster Cult taking the stage Friday night Breitbeck Park was crowed with people both from Oswego and out of town for Harborfest.

No injuries were reported in a fire Wednesday in Oswego. The cause of the early afternoon house fire at 80 E. Mohawk St. is under investigation by the city of Oswego Cause and Origin Team. Numerous people inside the building exited on their own.

Veteran Oswego City School District Board of Education member James Tschudy has announced his resignation. Tschudy delivered his resignation notice to District Clerk William Foley and indicted that it would be effective  on Wednesday morning, July 24.

The collaboration between the Fulton Family YMCA and the Oswego YMCA has a new executive director who has a record of strengthening the community. Greg Mills of Oswego will lead the two YMCAs starting July 29. To take the post, he will step down as a longtime board member of the Oswego YMCA and as assistant director of the city of Oswego Community Development office.

In preparation for Harborfest 2013, the Oswego Police Department wishes to announce the following advisories regarding traffic, pedestrian and general information specific to the Harborfest celebration scheduled for July 25-28. For additional Harborfest information, visit www.oswegoharborfest.com

For many of us it seems like a lifetime ago when we were asked if we wanted to be seated at the smoking or non-smoking section in our local restaurant. For Zachary and Matthew Metott it was an actual lifetime ago. The Metott boys turn 10 years old this year and have never known a world where smoking was allowed in New York State restaurants.

The Common Council announced Monday night that the city had a memorandum of Agreement with the Municipal Employees Association for Management and Supervision of the City of Oswego. The previous deal expired Dec. 31, 2009.
