The department has a FEMA Grant of $149,538 and more than $23,000 in other funding. However, it is still nearly $30,000 shy of being able to make the purchase. The council will consider putting up the money if the department can find ways to pay it back.

But, Mother Nature wasn’t able to keep the kayaks out of the water at the “Rock the Lock” Oswego Paddlefest this weekend. Paddlers were set to launch from Wright’s Landing at noon and were greeted with a heavy rainfall all morning. That didn’t scare off kayakers though.

After providing care to the community for more than 52 years, Joseph Edmund Mather, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. obstetrician/gynecologist of Oswego County OB-GYN, P.C., has announced he will retire at the end of June. Dr. Mather Sr. has been providing women’s health care in Oswego since 1961 while maintaining privileges at Oswego Hospital until his retirement.
