While Oswego had hosted many parades on different occasions, it was during 1964 that friends and fellow Jaycee members Bill Greene and Bill Gregway decided that Oswego needed a bigger celebration for our nation’s birthday than just a fireworks display. Thus the tradition of the Oswego Independence Day Parade was born.

Plants are good for the environment, right? Not always. Aquatic invasive species (AIS) in local watersheds and ecosystems are negatively impacting native plants, animals and habitat. An invasive species is defined by the federal Executive Order 13112 that establishes a National Invasive Species Council as a species that is non-native to the ecosystem of interest and whose introduction causes or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health.

Rock the Locks Goes On, Despite The Rainy Start

Kayakers paddle by Lock 7 in the Oswego River on Saturday afternoon during the “Rock the Lock” festival.Oswego weather has been known as somewhat of a loose cannon and unpredictable. But, Mother Nature wasn’t able to keep the kayaks out of the water at the “Rock the Lock” Oswego Paddlefest this weekend. Paddlers were set to launch from Wright’s Landing at noon and were greeted with a heavy rainfall all morning. That didn’t scare off kayakers though.

Dr. Mather Retires After 52 Years Of Service In Oswego County

After providing care to the community for more than 52 years, Joseph Edmund Mather, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. obstetrician/gynecologist of Oswego County OB-GYN, P.C., has announced he will retire at the end of June. Dr. Mather Sr. has been providing women’s health care in Oswego since 1961 while maintaining privileges at Oswego Hospital until his retirement.
