OSWEGO — SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley has appointed Pamela D. Caraccioli as deputy to the president for external partnerships and economic development.
“We are a major economic anchor for our community and region,” Stanley said, “and we are committed to strengthening the translation of SUNY Oswego’s assets of faculty scholars, vibrant programs and experienced, knowledgeable students and graduates into our greater community to help supply the foundations for greater economic growth.”
“I am delighted that Pam Caraccioli has accepted this appointment,” Stanley added. “She is uniquely prepared for this position at SUNY Oswego, having worked in economic development in the region and state for many years while also teaching in our communication studies program.”
In her new role, Caraccioli will coordinate the college’s economic development efforts, develop critical partnerships, cultivate funding and invigorate SUNY Oswego’s endeavors to understand and address the state’s economic and social needs, the president said.
Stanley, who serves on the Central New York Regional Economic Development Council and chairs the board of directors of CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity, said she believes that “higher education’s traditional mission in preparing students and growing knowledge can more deliberately enhance the social and economic fiber of our communities when we align that mission with appropriate external partners.”
Caraccioli was deputy director of Operation Oswego County, Oswego County’s designated economic development agency, from 1995 to 2005.
Since then she has worked as an independent consultant assisting government, business and industry with reporting, compliance and communications related to various economic development programs and services.
For more than a dozen years, she has taught at SUNY Oswego as an adjunct professor of communication studies while also serving as business manager of Caraccioli & Associates, her family-owned law firm.
“I very much look forward to working closely with President Stanley and also engaging faculty and staff to build partnerships to invigorate SUNY Oswego’s existing economic development efforts, explore Start-Up NY initiatives and advance the strategic goals of SUNY Oswego,” Caraccioli said.
Caraccioli holds a master of public administration degree from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
She is member of the board for Northern Oswego County Health Services and has been a board trustee with Oswego Health for the past 15 years.
She formerly served as a board member for the Port of Oswego Authority, the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Harbor Festivals, and Arts and Culture for Oswego County.
