Oswego County Sheriff’s Office Respond To The Board of Elections For Unknown Substance In Mail

OSWEGO COUNTY – Earlier today, August 26th, 2026, at around 2:44 PM, members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Board of Elections, located at 74 Bunner Street in the City of Oswego, for a report of an unknown substance that was found on a piece of mail.

Three employees were evaluated by EMS, and one was transported to Oswego Hospital for precautionary reasons.  As a result, the building was evacuated and employees were sent home.  Ultimately, the substance was tested and deemed not hazardous.  The building will be open again tomorrow.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Oswego City Police Department, Oswego City Fire Department, Oswego County Fire Coordinators Office, New York State Police, and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
