2013 Oswego “Rock the Locks” Paddlefest Changes Course

The Oswego “Rock the Locks” Paddlefest Committee decided Friday, June 28, to move the paddling event to the Oswego Harbor for the safety of the paddlers. “Due to flood warnings, debris in the river and strong currents from recent storms, we decided to move the event to the Oswego Harbor,” said Jackie Sheffield, associate director of the Oswego YMCA. “We are asking paddlers to meet at Wright’s Landing in Oswego instead of paddling through the locks.”

Children’s Committee Guarantees Family Fun At Harborfest

Novelis Family Park is located in Franklin SquareConsistent with this year’s theme, “Celebrate Oswego,” the Harborfest Children’s Park, sponsored by Novelis, features events by the many local businesses that support strong child development through entertainment and education. Novelis Family Park is located in Franklin Square on the west side of Oswego and will run from July 26 through 28.
Children’s events at Breitbeck Park will begin on July 23.

Junior Girl Scout’s Project Makes Soccer Fun For All

When they're ready, some of the older kids get together for a friendly game of soccer.Usually, when Claudia Chetney steps onto the soccer field her objective is clear – do whatever it takes to help her team win. For the past several weeks, she has undertaken a variation of that mission. The Junior Girl Scout is ensuring that children with disabilities can play soccer for the fun of it – and not worry about winning or losing or even what the score might be. The program allows everyone the chance to learn the basics of soccer and enjoy the game without having to worry about their skill level.

Oswego County Offices Begin Summer Hours July 1

The Oswego County Legislature has adopted summer hours for departments in the Legislative Office Building at 46 E. Bridge St., Oswego. Beginning July 1, and ending Aug. 30, offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Department of Motor Vehicles offices in Oswego, Fulton and Pulaski will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. during July and August.

Former Oswego Resident Donates ‘Circus’ To RR Museum

The circus is coming to town, thanks to a former Port City resident. David H Dice said he is giving the Oswego Railroad Museum the circus layout he built over the last few years. “I want people to in joy it. My grandchildren and there children and family can see it and say, ‘My Grandfather made this.’ I am so happy to be able to do this,” he said.
