Van Halen Nation brings the audience back to the 80s.
Breitbeck Park in Oswego was full of people Thursday for opening night of Harborfest. With a countdown led by Mayor Tom Gillen the festival was declared “open.”
Van Halen Nation took the stage first to kick-off the weekend.
Rich Whitney and his wife Kelly have been attending Harborfest for at least 15 years. They were enjoying Van Halen Nation with their son.
“I wanted to see the band, he wanted to play games,” said Whitney.”The [singer] sounds pretty good, the guitarist is good. They’ve got the main components.”
People travel far in order to come to Harborfest and with a full weekend of events planned, this year’s festival is sure to deliver.
“We always have a good time,” said Carina who came all the way from Toronto, Canada. “We love the bands and the food and everything.”
“A lot of you folks live in Oswego and a lot of you are from not around here,” said Mayor Gillen. “What’s important too is a lot of people are here who don’t live in Oswego anymore. They come back because they love Oswego and they love what we offer here. I just want to welcome everybody.”
After the Mayor’s welcome, the Devonshires took the stage to keep the party going.
The weekend will continue with Foghat and Blue Oyster Cult headlining Friday night. The Grucci Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday night, and Real Diamond to close out Harborfest on Sunday.
