Oswego’s Independence Parade Committee Announces Featured Performers

The annual Oswego Independence Parade will feature the sparkle and pageantry of The Uptown String Band, a member of the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association. Pictured is The Uptown String Band’s Captain Ryan Radcliffe, who will lead the group through Oswego on July 7 beginning at 1 p.m. from Oswego High School and ending at the East Seventh Street tunnel at Fort Ontario.The Oswego Independence Parade will feature The Uptown String Band, a member of the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association. The Independence Celebration, which will be held on July 7 beginning with the Annual Independence Parade at 1 p.m. The theme for this very special event is “Fifty Years of Family, Fun and Fireworks!”

Group Aims To Keep Rangers’ Memories Alive

Members of the Able Company 5th Ranger Infantry Living History Association man a "machine gun nest" at Fort Ontario.The 5th Ranger Battalion is credited with breaching the Atlantic Wall on Dog White Beach on June 6, 1944, attacking and capturing German forts on the Brest Peninsula, holding the Irsh-Zerf road 10 miles behind German lines in Germany waiting for the Armor to relieve them. A group of re-enactors was at Fort Ontario recently to keep alive the memory of these brave men.

Flag Day Observed At Historic Fort Ontario

Members of the military interpretive unit of the Continental Arms Collectors Association, representing the 1st New York Regiment of 1782, prepare to present the American Flag.The British Flag was lowered and the American Flag was raised over Fort Ontario on Friday as a large audience, mostly elementary students, learned about the history of the flag and the fort. A large crowd of mostly elementary students and their teachers from around the county and some re-enactors depicting different eras, filled the parade grounds to witness the Flag Day celebration.

County Readies for Court Fight over FitzPatrick’s Taxes

Legislators agreed to hire the law firm of Hacker Murphy to defend the county in this litigation. They also approved a professional services contract for appraisal and related technical services to George E. Sansoucy and Cost Plus Consulting regarding the plant’s appraisal. And the county agreed to enter into an intermunicipal agreement with the town and district in regards to the tax certiorari litigation.

Oswego Councilors Agree To Seek Lower ‘Bed Tax’

After a lengthy discussion this week, the Common Council voted to reconsider Resolution No. 220 of 2013, which authorized the mayor to execute all documents necessary to state legislators and other state agencies to request authorization for and empower the Port City to adopt a local law for the purpose of imposing a city of Oswego room occupancy tax law. This week, they amended the rate down from 5 to 1 percent.

The family wants to make sure the public is educated about EEE, so that no other family has to go through what they have. The ultimate goal is to one day have a vaccine available to the general public.
