City officials are in the preliminary stages working out a plan to ease the parking problems in the first and third wards before the snow flies. At a recent meeting, First Ward Councilor Fran Enwright requested a discussion regarding open parking for the winter at Wright’s Landing.
The staff of the Oswego High School Buccaneer Bulletin newspapers certainly won’t be superstitious about the number “13” as the staff recently returned from the 2012 Empire State School Press Association with 13 gold medals. Claudia Strong, ESSPA workshop presenter, said, “The Buccaneer Bulletin looks more professional than many professional newspapers that I have seen in my career.”

State Police in Hastings are investigating a one-car crash that occurred shortly after 1pm this afternoon (Oct. 22) on Interstate 81 in the town of Hastings.
The impact of this settlement on the school district will be a loss of approximately $1 million of tax revenue during the 2012-2013 school year.
“Nine Mile Point declared an Unusual Event at 7:01 p.m. on October 22 in accordance with our procedures due to an equipment fire (electrical panel) that was not able to be confirmed extinguished within 15 minutes,” according to Jill Lyon, Constellation Energy Nuclear Group spokesperson. “We confirmed that the fire was extinguished at 7:08 p.m. and Nine Mile Point exited the Unusual Event at 7:32 p.m.”
The council and mayor pointed out a tax hike isn’t necessarily imminent in the Port City. This was just a precautionary measure, they said. Under the local law, if the city inadvertently exceeds the state’s figure, they won’t be penalized, the council president explained. And if the state mandates force the city budget over the cap, they have more options than cutting services to deal with it.
UPDATED: One person was seriously injured in an ATV accident this morning (Oct. 22). The crash reportedly happened at 356 County Route 29, just south of the County Route 51A intersection. Mercy Flight transported the 72-year-old victim to a Syracuse hospital.
He is accused of violating an Order of Protection by refusing to let the victim named in that order leave his residence for two days. The suspect also allegedly threatened the victim with a steak knife, tied the victim’s hands behind the victim’s back with a rope, and forced the victim to sleep the living room while the suspect slept between the victim and the door.
