Council Approves Amendment To City Code Regarding Taxi Drivers

The Oswego Common Council approved Local Law No. 2 of 2012 Monday night without any discussion. The discussion took place prior to the regular meeting. It is an attempt to ensure proper background checks are done on potential taxicab drivers, explained Third Ward Councilor Mike Todd. Taxi companies will have a two-week grace period to get the background checks done after the new law goes into affect.

Summer 2012 Warmth Was No Recordbreaker

The summer of 2012 was a warm one; but it wasn’t a record-break, according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service. The average temperature was 71.2 degrees. That is 2.7 degrees warmer than average, Gregway said. Going back to 1855, that ties with the summer of 1876 for fifth warmest on record.

Mock Emergency Helps Ensure Oswego Hospital Is Prepared For The Real Thing

Dozens of “sickened” young people descended on Oswego Hospital Thursday. It was all part of a large drill and the teens’ participation helped train those who’d respond to such an event if this had been an actual emergency. The drill focused primarily on the hospital’s ability to effectively respond to incidents that would involve large numbers of chemically contaminated patients who self-report to the facility.

Largest River Fishing Derby in the Northeast Returns to Pulaski

The 2012 fall salmon run has started and many are calling it the biggest run in years. Bring your pole and gear to land the largest catch in the second annual Salmon River Fishing Derby. The tournament runs from Oct. 5 to 7 in conjunction with Pulaski’s Salmon River Festival.The derby runs from Oct. 5 to 7 in conjunction with the annual Salmon River Festival in Pulaski. “The Salmon River records more record-size salmon caught in its waters than any river in the eastern United States,” said Vernon Chamberlain, derby organizer and president of the Salmon River International Sportfishing Museum.
