Fire Chief Jeff McCrobie requested a budget amendment to cover the short shift overtime for the department due to various injuries, illnesses and transfers. The council OK’d funding up to $95,000 for the remainder of 2012.

The Oswego County Health Department is once again reminding residents to protect themselves from mosquito-borne diseases such as Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) and the West Nile Virus (WNV).

At about 3:01 p.m. Aug. 24, members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office and the Palermo Fire Department responded to a fatal motor vehicle accident at the intersection of State Route 3 and State Route 264 in the town of Palermo.

Oswego County agencies have recovered nearly $58,000 in welfare fraud since the beginning of the year, thanks to the efforts of the Department of Social Services, District Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Office.

Representative Ann Marie Buerkle (NY-25) hosted her 20th town hall meeting Wednesday at the Fair Haven Fire Hall. “A man who had been in the investment business for more than 40 years walked over to me and said, ‘The only thing the government has ever done for me is stand in my way. Oswego State Athletics Director Timothy G. Hale has announced his upcoming retirement with his last day on campus being today (Aug. 23).

The groundbreaking ceremony at Premier Living Suites, an apartment complex designed for college students, was held shortly after noon at 247 W. Utica St. on Wednesday. Premier Living Suites is currently signing leases for the 71 beds in the building.  It should be ready to open in time for the fall 2013 semester.
