At its meeting Monday, the Common Council voted to hold a public hearing for a proposed code changes for Chapter 228, taxicabs (buses), of the code of the city of Oswego. It will be held at 7:10 p.m. July 23 in the Council Chamber at City Hall. Prior to the vote, the public weighed in on the issue.
Today (July 9), United States Senator Charles E. Schumer announced that President Obama has signed into law new drug legislation that will permanently ban the deadly chemical compounds marketed and sold as bath salts and incense in the New York State and the United States.
Joseph T. Steadman, 34, of 126 County Route 85 in the town of Granby, was last seen in the Granby area on July 5. He is described as a white male, weighing approximately 250 pounds, standing approximately 6’4” with brown hair and brown eyes.
He allegedly subjected a male victim under the age of 17 to sexual contact. And, he allegedly engaged in oral sexual contact with a male under the age of 14.

Eleven volunteers worked the Oswego River, along the west and south sides of Battle Island, the west shore of the mainland and the channel between Factory Island and Battle Island Golf Course. A noticeable decrease in the chestnut quantities was observed along the west shore of Battle Island after five years of pulling the chestnuts in that area.
On July 7, at approximately 10:30 p.m., State Police in Pulaski responded to 1083 State Route 104 in Albion, for a report of an assault in progress. Route 104 in that area was shut down with assistance from the local fire department, since the perpetrator was thought to be in the area and armed with a .30 caliber rifle.
UPDATE: Joseph Brant, one of five works of art at Mexico Point Park, was stolen over the weekend. He was just found dumped along the roadside near the park.
The horses were evaluated by the Oswego County Humane Society and a veterinarian from North Country Veterinary and found to be underweight. However, there were no signs of neglect. The homeowner, in conjunction with county officials, will work to ensure the horses are properly fed and nourished to attain the appropriate weight, according to the State Police.
The Oswego County Clerk’s Office on-line data management service was off-line for a few days this week, due to a circuit board failure, but the service has been fully restored, County Clerk George Williams said Thursday. Williams said sometime over last weekend a circuit board failed and caused the data management system to malfunction.
