The Oswego County Health Department launched its full-scale mosquito surveillance program for the 2012 season with training sessions on May 21 at Toad Harbor Swamp.  Toad Harbor and Big Bay swamp areas are usually the first places EEE virus appears each summer. However, last year it appeared in a few places around Oswego County at the same time.

At about 2:51 a.m. today (June 3), members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department, McFee Ambulance and Palermo Fire Department responded to a single motor vehicle accident at the intersection of State Route 49 at State Route 3 in the town of Palermo. The driver died at the scene

An Oswego man is in jail after a domestic dispute in which he also allegedly threatened a deputy with a knife.

Quintin Briglin, 19, of Pulaski, was arrested at the Oswego County Correctional Facility for 3 counts of Burglary, 2nd degree, a class C felony and 3 counts of Criminal Mischief, 4th degree, a class a misdemeanor for incidents that occurred on 4/14/12 in the village of Pulaski. He was also charged in connection with several other crimes.

The second edition of the 2012 GENIUS Olympiad will be held at SUNY Oswego June 24-29. Taking part in the Olympiad this year will be students from 49 countries and 32 states.

Oswego’s War of 1812 Bicentennial Peace Garden was successfully planted recently. The garden is part of the War of 1812 Bicentennial Peace Garden Trail. The official dedication of the city of Oswego 1812 Bicentennial Peace Garden will be conducted at 4 p.m. on June 16 at the garden site.

City officials say they want to buy an east side property currently owned by the county. The structure will be razed and then the city will consider possible uses for the site, which includes turning it into a small park, the mayor said.

“This day is in memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice, laying down their lives so you and I and our families have the opportunity to enjoy the freedoms that we have today,”  according to George Hoffman, the master of ceremonies of Oswego’s Memorial Day observance.
