Ritchie Jail Overcrowding Bill OK’d By Senate Panel

A bill sponsored by State Senator Patty Ritchie that would help Oswego, Jefferson and other counties facing an inmate crunch in their crowded local jails has been approved by a key Senate committee she said today (March 21). Under the senator’s bill, the state would have to accept these inmates within 10 days or pay a fee to counties for housing them, restoring a policy that was repealed in 2009.

Oswego School Board Works To Pare Budget Proposal

Members of the Oswego school board Tuesday night approved placing a referendum for 10 buses on the ballot this spring. Then, they took another whack getting the proposed $78.7 million 2012-13 school budget down to where they want it. Superintendent Bill Crist provided board members with a brief update of what he called a “live, fluid document.”

Fatal Crash Victims Identified – Investigation Continues

Oswego County Sheriff’s Investigators have released the names of the persons involved in a truck vs. motorcycle crash that occurred Sunday afternoon on State Route 49 in West Monroe. The driver of the truck was 65-year-old Carl Wells of Parish. The driver of the motorcycle was Robert Hoke, 54, of Westernville, NY. His passenger was Lisa Staple, 49, of Rome, NY.
