Due to natural gas costs being lower than originally forecast and warmer temperatures, heating costs for National Grid customers in upstate New York have been more than 20 percent lower than last winter.

The Oswego City School District presented another veteran with their high school diploma. At Tuesday’s meeting, the board cited John Rucynski as part of Operation Recognition. Rucynski was a command sergeant major in the US Army. He served with the Marine Corps in Vietnam in 1965.
Approval was granted for a request from Shane Broadwell, Tri-Oswego Triathlon race director, for use of several city properties for the Tri-Oswego 2012 Triathlon on June 16 and 17. A request by the YMCA to use of Breitbeck Park and the McCrobie Civic Center for a Sept. 8 event – Dragon Boat Community Festival – was also OK’d.
The Oswego native has served as the first, and only, commissioner in the history of the Division III athletics conference. He has held the post since 1979, acting in the full-time capacity since 1985.
At Tuesday night’s board meeting, Superintendent Bill Crist updated members on the plan in the wake of his meetings recently with the home and school associations of the elementary schools. Those meetings, he said, did provide some additional insights.
UPDATE: The victim struck by a vehicle at the intersection of East Seventh and Bridge Streets in the city of Oswego earlier today has been pronounced dead at the Oswego Hospital, as a result of injuries suffered in the accident.
Police say an 80-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of East Bridge and East Seventh streets.
The people spoke and the council listened Monday night. The Common Council voted 3-4 against a zone change for 134 and 140 E. 13th St., from R-3 Residential to B-1 Neighborhood Business. Chris LaBarge sought the zone change in order to purchase the property and build a hotel there.
However, nearly a dozen residents of the area spoke out against the plan for an hour at the council’s public session.
The Oswego High School boys’ hockey team could not have picked a better time to have one of the best games of the year. On Saturday, at the Utica Auditorium the Oswego High School Bucs dominated Skaneateles with a 5-0 win enroute to the Section III Division II Championships.
