Mayor Tom Gillen presented a certification of appreciation to the members of the Oswego Fire Department at Tuesday night’s council meeting. Chief Jeff McCrobie and five firefighters were recognized for rescuing Aaron Matthews after he had been swept off the breakwall into Lake Ontario on Feb. 6.

UPDATE: A body found along the Lake Ontario shore in Scriba will be sent to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s office to determine its identity. Police say there were no signs of foul play on the body.

While many see Feb. 14 as a special day to spend with the one you love, others see it as just a commercial holiday.

The New York Lottery today announced the name of a Mexico Mega Millions player who won $10,000 in the drawing held on Feb. 3. The winner, Sharon Clark, purchased the winning ticket at the Big M at 3385 Main St. in Mexico.

After 150 years, there are plenty of legends, ghost stories and other lore regarding SUNY Oswego. Stories range from ropes that saved students from being blown into the lake to a car’s on campus burial ground to a presidential bath tub and much more.

Oswego City School District Superintendent of Schools Bill Crist continues his “town hall” style visits to three more elementary schools during the week of February 13-16.

Central New York is not exactly known for January and February days when you can sit out on your front deck and enjoy the nice weather. But, this winter has been especially unusual for the people of the Greater Syracuse region, and residents have mixed feelings about the mild season.

The arrest comes as a direct result of an Anti-Crime Team investigation into suspected criminal activity at her address.
