State Decision On Ballast Water Regulations Could Sink Oswego Port

The port could be forced to close if New York moves forward to enforce unworkable rules governing the treatment of ballast water carried by commercial vessels on the St. Lawrence Seaway. The proposal would require meeting strict guidelines; however, no technology exists anywhere in the world to achieve this goal, opponents point out.

Meeting Focuses On Fishing Safety

Several dozen fishermen participate in a meeting to find ways to make fishing in the Oswego River safer and prevent mishaps like the one last week that has claimed the lives of two anglers. Schumer Announces NRC Security Improvements

US Senator Charles Schumer revealed that the NRC has completed an audit conducted at his urging and will beef up security at nuclear power plants around the country.
