The Oswego school board member who was removed from the board for misconduct a few years ago says he welcomes the challenge. Hoefer told his colleagues, “Bring it on,” as he plans to use this as a springboard to do battle with the State Commissioner of Education over things such as tenure.

UPDATE: Neighbor Arrested for Apartment Fire

John M. CoughlinUPDATE, 9:00 P.M. TUESDAY: Oswego Police arrested the person who lives in another apartment at 211 E. Eighth St. and charged him with setting the fire inside apartment 1.

At about 5:23 p.m. Monday, the Oswego City Fire Department responded with the Oswego City Police Department to a reported structure fire at 211 E. Eighth St. Investigators at the scene have indicated that from the preliminary investigation, the fire does appear to be suspicious.

Firefighters Move Ahead With Eastside Memorial Plan

The Oswego Common Council paved the way Monday night for a firefighters’ memorial. Councilors approved the Fire Department’s request to use public space on the west side of the Eastside Fire Station, on the grass between the station and the walking path, for construction of a firefighters’ memorial including a flagpole, decorative pavers and benches.

Redistricting Returns To School Board Agenda

The Oswego school board revisited the possibility of conducting a redistricting and relocation initiative in the district. The board conducted a discussion this week with consultants from Syracuse University’s Office of Professional Research and Development. The board concluded the discussion without setting a timetable for any decision to be made.
