Senator Secures $1.024M For Oswego DPW Equipment

OSWEGO, NY – Senator Darrel Aubertine was at the Common Council meeting Monday night to present the city with a $1,024,000 grant.

The senator recognized the needs of the city’s DPW and these funds “will go a long way to provide the necessary resources the DPW needs,” Mayor Randy Bateman said.

In thanking the senator for the funds, the mayor noted that money would maintain vital city services.

The funding enables the city to purchase three pieces of equipment now and several other pieces needed to better serve city residents without increasing their property taxes to do so, he said.

With the help of the funding, the DPW is able to purchase two new plow/sander trucks, a backhoe and trailer and other equipment, the mayor said.

The city has already approved the purchase of a new sewer cleaning machine, and street sweeper, the mayor said.

All of this equipment was identified as a “critical need” and will go to ensuring vital city services are maintained for city residents, the senator added.

The funds will benefit the city’s taxpayers, the mayor said.

Without the funds, the purchases would have equaled a 15 percent property tax increase, he said.

The city officials should be commended, the senator said following the ceremonial check presentation, for bringing the needs of the city to his attention.

“In Central and Northern New York we understand the burden of property taxes and this funding will ensure that vital services are sustained without increasing that burden,” he said. “We understand full well the challenges that our weather here creates for all of us. With this grant, the city of Oswego will have the equipment it needs to meet those challenges the interests of the residents. I want to thank the mayor, the council and city employees for their work. As always, this was a full team effort.”

“I want to thank Senator Aubertine for this grant, which makes it possible for us to purchase much needed equipment for our DPW,” Bateman said. “Darrel has recognized the dire need of our DPW and this new equipment will go a long way to provide the necessary resources that we need to maintain our infrastructure.”

The new equipment will also allow the city to perform needed work in-house, thereby saving taxpayers even more money, Bateman added. missing or outdated ad config
