Oswego homeowners and businesses will soon pay a lot more for the use of the city’s sewer system. The Common Council voted Monday night to increase sewer fees by 50% to pay for a court-ordered separation of the city’s west side system.
Statements made by Joyce Malone to police in the hours after her husband’s death can be used at her trial, a judge has ruled. Oswego County Court Judge Walter Hafner denied defense attorney James Eby’s attempt to suppress his client’s statements.
TRAFFIC ALERT: Beginning today (Aug. 9), crews will be making the change over, opening the north side of the Utica Street Bridge and closing the south side of the bridge. This change will most likely take all day to complete. As has been the case, the bridge will remain open during the project with one lane available for traffic in each direction.

The water quality problems several Hillside Avenue residents are having resurfaced at this week’s Administrative Services Committee meeting. Councilor Ron Kaplewicz requested the council waive the water fee for select residents on Hillside Avenue. They received a waiver last quarter. However, the poor water quality hasn’t been corrected by the city, and residents have received their full bills for the next quarter.
Hundreds of law enforcement officers, active and retired were joined today (Aug. 5) in paying their respects for Oswego City Police Capt. James Comerford. The procession made its way from Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home down East Oneida Street past the captain’s house and then made its way up East Fifth Street in front of Trinity Catholic School before ending at St. Paul’s Church. Many of the marchers had tears in their eyes.
Twenty county youth have completed training to be judges, defense attorneys, prosecutors and court clerks. Hearings are conducted and real punishments for offenders are handed out. “This is serious stuff. What you’re going to be doing is real,” an adviser told the students.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating multiple burglaries that occurred from July 21 through29. If anyone recognizes the suspect or has any information, they’re asked to contact the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office.
The Nine Mile One nuclear power plant reactor began to be shut down Tuesday after workers discovered a problem with one of its backup power generators, according to the plant’s owner, Constellation Nuclear.
Spokesperson Jill Lyon says the shutdown was stopped and the plant was brought back to full power by midnight after the generator was fixed.
