The New York State Education Department has made significant scoring changes in grading the statewide proficiency tests. These tests have been given regularly since 2005 to elementary and middle school students. However, the changes will have an impact on test scores as well as present problems for school districts.
A new wind turbine was installed Thursday on the roof of Lee Hall on the SUNY Oswego campus. The turbine, connected to the campus heating plant, will provide about 40,000 killowatt hours of electricity a year.
At approximately 1:10 p.m. today (July 29), Oswego Police were dispatched to Wal-Mart, 341 State Route 104 regarding a bomb threat. AÂ search yielded no credible threats and the store was reopened after Wal-Mart management determined that there was no danger to the public.

A family driving by St. Louis Church when it collapsed Sunday escaped without any serious injuries. So did a Harborfest vendor who was in his vehicle in the church’s parking lot when the debris began to tumble. Officials say the collapse was probably caused by previous water damage over the last decade combined with the recent heavy rains.

We chose a sequence of photos taken as firehoses blew down the damaged steeple of St. Louis Church, the last moment when a symbol of the church stood in the city.

Crews worked into the night and were able to successfully bring down the remaining portions of the vacant church. Early this morning, the debris was cleared from the roadway and State Route 104 was reopened to vehicular traffic.
