Here in Oswego County, people aren’t strangers to the heat and humidity of a Central New York summer. We do everything from cranking up the AC, to heading out on the boat for the breeze and maybe a dip in the lake, to relaxing poolside with a cool drink. Pets are just as affected by the heat as their human counterparts, if not more.
Nearly idyllic weather greeted the large crowd at Thursday night’s opening of Harborfest 23. The music started at 7 p.m. with Hollywood Nights (a tribute to Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band). And, after a short interruption for the official opening ceremonies, The Little River Band kept Harborfest 2010 rocking and rolling.
It’s opening night for Harborfest. The annual summer celebration begins in the usual fashion — with an opening set of concerts wrapped around an opening ceremony.
Thursday night’s opening begins with the Bob Seger tribute band “Hollywood Nights” at 7:30 p.m.
Opening ceremonies take place at 8:30 p.m.
Right after that, the night’s headliners take the stage. Australia’s Little River Band perform on the Breitbeck Park stage beginning at 9:00 p.m.

A deteriorated bridge on Dam Road (Stillwater) over the Salmon River will be removed by the Oswego County Highway Department following a determination that the bridge’s condition is a safety hazard and near collapsing.
The injured pit bull puppy recently underwent five and a half hours of surgery to have his severed jaw repaired. The man who allegedly injured the puppy is facing a felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty. Although the school year just ended, it’s time to make sure your child has the right immunizations for the next school year. New York State requires people to receive certain vaccinations to be eligible for entrance to school. These requirements range from children entering kindergarten to students going to college.
Jason Radmoski of T.O. M. Entertainment, of Syracuse, wants to use the city’s Harbor Rail Trail and Tunnel on East First Street for making a full-length independent film, “Fallen Angels.†If approved by the council, filming will take place next month.
In preparation for Harborfest 2010, the Oswego Police Department wishes to announce the following advisories regarding traffic, pedestrian and general information specific to the festival scheduled for July 22 – 25.
Bion Environmental Technologies is trying to win the support of the Oswego County community to build a beef cattle and ethanol production mega project in Schroeppel. Bion has its work cut out for itself, if the audience that heard its pitch is any indication.
The city’s Open Container Ordinance will NOT be lifted on Water Street during this year’s Harborfest celebration.
As such, the street will remain open, people won’t be allowed to congregate in the roadway and the Open Container Ordinance will be in effect and strictly enforced.
