Councilors Consider Grant Funding For OPD

At Monday night’s Administrative Services Committee, Mike Dehm, police chief, requested permission to reapply for the 2010 Community Oriented Polices Services Hiring Recovery Program. It’s a competitive grant program that provides funding directly to state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies nationwide. The department would have to keep the officer(s) for one year after the grant funding.

Car Crash In Downtown Oswego Damages Buildings

City police are investigating a motor vehicle crash that took  place in downtown Oswego this morning.

The driver of a pickup truck reportedly struck a parked and unoccupied vehicle which struck several street signs and came to rest in the intersection of West Bridge Street / West Second streets. The initial vehicle continued upon the north curb and sidewalk of West Bridge Street where it struck the building.

Oswego District Redistricting Plan To Start This Fall

The Oswego City School District will put a plan into motion this fall to balance elementary class sizes and save money on the process. Elementary school redistricting is well under way, district officials said Thursday afternoon. Students who live on the fringes of attendance and transportation zones will be moved to new schools, the superintendent explained.

Members of Trinity Catholic School’s three-day program for three-year-olds took visitors down to the farm Wednesday evening. They presented the musical “Going to the Farm.” The 10 boys and girls in the class performed such favorites as Six Little Ducks, Take Me Out To The Farm, Five Spotted Cows, The Jingle Jangle Scarecrow and others. Oswego School District Looks To Fund Clubs

In the coming school year’s budget, cuts were made to the stipends of some clubs’ advisers. Tuesday night, school board member Dave White sought to have funds returned to four long-time OHS clubs. Sam Tripp, board president, said he supported the idea. But, the money would have to come from some other place as he won’t increase the budget.
