The Oswego County Legislature voted Thursday to oppose a New York Power Authority project that would locate dozens of huge wind turbines in Lake Ontario. The vote was 20-4-1. Nearly 30 members of the Oswego County and surrounding area spoke about the pros and cons of the project for about two hours before the vote.
Writes Chuck Harrington: “The Fort is again under siege – not by an armada assembled by a foreign enemy, but one of our own making. Budget cuts in Albany, spurred by an era of fiscal irresponsibility, have led us to the real possibility of losing a site that holds such a rich history, and many stunning tales of bravery.”
A rally to try to preserve the Fort is scheduled for Sunday.
One of Australia’s most revered rock bands, Little River Band, will be the featured artist opening night at Oswego Harborfest. “Little River Band is a great way to open Harborfest 2010,†said Tom Van Schaack, executive director of Harborfest.
The Oswego School Board member says the superintendent is trying to do something right. Instead of cutting him, the board should give him a chance. “I want to see if he can pull this (budget) off with no tax increase,” Hoefer added. The superintendent will present his proposed spending plan next week.

North Country accountant Doug Hoffman will run for Congress this year, seeking to reunite the Republican and Conservative parties and take back the seat lost to a Democrat for the first time since the Civil War.
