Board Approves Volunteer Work On Wilber Field

The Oswego City School District Board of Education today (July 14) approved the acceptance of a bid for sod replacement at Joe Wilber Field and allowing a volunteer to prepare the field for the sod installation. The board nearly didn’t get to the resolution as the meeting erupted into a shouting match between members Dave White and Fran Hoefer.

EEE Found In Bird-Biting Mosquitoes In West Monroe

Dr. Dennis Norfleet, Public Health Director of the Oswego County Health Department, said this morning (July 13), that the Eastern equine encephalitis virus was found in a pool of mosquitoes collected on Toad Harbor Road in West Monroe. The virus has only been found in the type of mosquitoes that bite birds, not in mosquitoes that feed on humans.

Scene Around Town: Bike Ride Begins In Oswego

You might have seen a whole bunch of bike riders in Oswego on Sunday and wondered what was going on.

The riders were in Oswego to begin the annual “Ride For Runaways”, put on by Anchor House of Trenton, New Jersey.  The agency’s website doesn’t explain why Oswego serves as the beginning of their rundraising ride, but we’re guessing it’s because Oswego to Trendon is about 500 miles.  A nice, round number.
