Oswego County Legislature Approves Additional Funds, Staffing For DSS
Legislators approved accepting a $500,000 state grant for DSS. The money will be used for improving supervisory practices, increasing staff and enhanced and training.
County Social Services Caseworker Increase Goes To Legislature Today
The increase was recommended by the authors of a study from Cornell University of the county’s Social Services department in the wake of the death of 11 year old Erin Maxwell of Palermo.
Paterson Names Lt. Gov.; Midnight Court Session Blocks Appointment; Senate Chaos Continues
Well, that didn’t take long.
At 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Governor David Paterson appointed a Lieutenant Governor in an attempt to end the two-party standoff in the State Senate.
By 1:00 a.m., a judge blocked the appointment.
Youth Court Training Under Way
The ranks of Oswego County’s Youth Court could swell by nearly two dozen soon. Teens from across the county are taking part in YC training this week. Youth Court is a recognized community diversion program aimed at keeping young offenders out of Family Court.
Farmers, Legislators Beef About Slaughterhouse Plan
Proposal to site the nation’s largest slaughterhouse somewhere in Oswego County doesn’t sit well with many. “We shouldn’t be leaping into something that hasn’t been done before, has no track record anywhere,” a member of the Oswego County Farm Bureau’s board cautions legislators The county won’t take any action until it receives a lot more information, the legislature’s chairman said.

Oswego Coast Guard Stages Two Rescues In A Week
Oswego’s Coast Guard station has had a busy week. Saturday, they resuced two men swept by waves into Lake Ontario and earlier in the week, they rescued four people from a capsized boat.
