OSWEGO, NY – Allison Carmody, of Oswego Girl Scout Troop 41, is working on earning the Girl Scout Gold Award.
The Gold Award is comparable to the Boy Scout Eagle Award, requiring the completion of an in-depth project.
For her project, Allison has organized a motorcycle run – “Speed to Feed” – which will take place this Saturday (August 1), according to her mother, Stephanie Carmody.
The admission price for the run will be 3 or more non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Food Bank of Central New York.
Registration will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the Oswego Elks Lodge, 132 W. Fifth St.
The ride will end at Salmon River Falls, near Pulaski.
A free barbecue will be held for the participants and a free patch given to the first 50 registrants.
Other scouts within the Oswego Service Unit will be assisting her in the registration, the barbecue, collecting food, or joining in the ride.
To date, sponsors include Paul’s Big M, Scriba Meats, Bosco’s, Allison’s advisor Carolyn Miller,
and DEC Road Dawg Sgt. Inman.
Also, many members of the community have contributed food items to donate, including staff at the Oswego County Health Department, Oswego Public Library, St. Peter’s Church parishioners, and neighbors on Burden Drive, as well as many other individuals.
Pre-registration for the run is not required.
Anyone wishing to donate non-perishable food items but not ride may drop them off at the Elk’s during registration or contact Allison at 342-7691 or [email protected] to arrange for a pickup.
“We are hoping to donate at least a quarter-ton of food to the Food Bank of Central New York,” said Allison.
