The Oswego Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 12:07 p.m. today (Nov. 10) at 220 W. Eighth St. According to fire officials, there was nobody home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
The Oswego City School District Board of Education is pleased to announce that Dr. Dean Goewey, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, will take the position of superintendent left vacant upon Ben Halsey’s recent resignation.
After careful consideration and a thorough interview process with Dr. Goewey, the board determined that Dr. Goewey’s appointment will best serve the interest of the district, while maintaining a continuity of leadership.
Annual maintenance of siren systems that surround the county’s three nuclear power plants may now include audible tests of a few seconds for each siren, Oswego County Emergency Management Director Dale Currier said today (Nov. 10).

At Monday night’s meeting, the Common Council honored a veteran Oswego police officer who died in the line of duty. Lieutenant Don Hill had served Oswego as a police officer for more than 20 years. He was struck and killed by a vehicle while directing traffic on Nov. 11, 1995. The Civic Plaza will be dedicated as the Donald R. Hill Plaza.
Fulton city clerk/chamberlain Daniel O’Brien headed the first 2016 general budget meeting for the city of Fulton alongside Mayor Ron Woodward Sr. and the rest of the city council Monday. The first look into the general numbers shows a proposed budget of 16.3 million dollars, an increase from this year’s 15.7 million dollar budget.
The Children’s Museum of Oswego has announced plans for an 8,000 square foot children’s museum in the historic Buckhout-Jones building located at 7 W. Bridge St. Initial design calls for a two-story exhibition space that encourages children to interact and learn through various interactive displays.
At the council meeting November 4, county legislator Frank Castiglia Jr. approached the board with some questions and concerns in regards to the demolition of the former Nestles property in Fulton. The city recently bid off the former Nestles property to be demolished and awarded the job to Infinity Enterprises to tear down the site for no cost to the city, only sole salvage rights to everything on the property.
Michael Barry, the town of Scriba Highway Superintendent-elect, and a current employee of the highway department, was arrested for driving while intoxicated earlier this summer and managed to stay silent about the charges during a hotly contested primary and general election, according to a statement from the town supervisor and attorney.
