Change in Leadership Announced for Oswego City School District

The Oswego City School District Board of Education is pleased to announce that Dr. Dean Goewey, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, will take the position of superintendent left vacant upon Ben Halsey’s recent resignation.

After careful consideration and a thorough interview process with Dr. Goewey, the board determined that Dr. Goewey’s appointment will best serve the interest of the district, while maintaining a continuity of leadership.

This monument for Lieutenant Don Hill is located outside the police department. Monday night, the Common Council approved dedicating Civic Plaza in honor of the police officer who was killed in the line of duty Nov. 11, 1995.

Oswego Council Honors Fallen Police Officer

At Monday night’s meeting, the Common Council honored a veteran Oswego police officer who died in the line of duty. Lieutenant Don Hill had served Oswego as a police officer for more than 20 years. He was struck and killed by a vehicle while directing traffic on Nov. 11, 1995. The Civic Plaza will be dedicated as the Donald R. Hill Plaza.

At the council meeting November 4, county legislator Frank Castiglia Jr. approached the board with some questions and concerns in regards to the demolition of the former Nestles property in Fulton. The city recently bid off the former Nestles property to be demolished and awarded the job to Infinity Enterprises to tear down the site for no cost to the city, only sole salvage rights to everything on the property.

Scriba Highway Chief-Elect Arrested for DWI

Michael Barry, the town of Scriba Highway Superintendent-elect, and a current employee of the highway department, was arrested for driving while intoxicated earlier this summer and managed to stay silent about the charges during a hotly contested primary and general election, according to a statement from the town supervisor and attorney.
