KEYS Program Drives Smiles Onto Faces of Families Battling Cancer

The KEYS Program “Smile Experience” achieved its intended goal, as a number of child cancer patients and their families were all smiles during the most recent KEYS respite day at the Oswego County Quarter Midget Club. “It’s nice for them,” said KEYS Program founder Colleen Bennett in regards to the KEYS children. “To have a day away from hospitals, needles and doctors. To have a day with their family and a moment to just enjoy life.”

Child Struck By Vehicle In Oswego

A young boy was injured tonight (Aug. 27) after being struck by a vehicle, according to Oswego Fire Department officials. The child was reportedly riding a scooter in the street and was hit by a truck around 8 p.m. He transported to University Hospital in Syracuse with a possible leg fracture and a head injury, they said.

Fresh Air Fund Brings NYC Children to CNY Host Homes

Exceptionally excited children recently brought from the crowded streets of New York City have come to Central New York for some fresh air. Through the Fresh Air Fund, these children will live with host families in the Oswego County area including Fulton, Oswego and Phoenix. The children, anywhere from age 6 to 18, come to their host families for up to two weeks in order to leave the bustling city streets behind and run freely in the grass.

Oswego Drug Dealer Sent To Prison

On Tuesday Jonathan A. Baldwin, 30, of Oswego, appeared in Oswego County Court and was sentenced to 4-1/2 years in state prison, along with 3 years post-release supervision, based upon his conviction for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony. At a prior court appearance in June, Baldwin pleaded guilty “as charged” to the sole count of an indictment, that he knowingly possessed heroin with the intent to sell in the town of Volney on February 10, 2015.

EEE Still Present in Oswego County

The Oswego County Health Department reported today that the Eastern equine encephalitis virus was detected in a sample of mosquitoes collected last week near the village of Central Square. Monitoring shows that although the Aug. 16 aerial spraying was very effective in reducing the number of mosquitoes near the north shore of Oneida Lake, the EEE virus is still present in the environment.

Local Businessman Says He Can Save Cahill’s Building

Hundreds of people in and around the Port City have expressed the desire to save the former Cahill’s Fish Market. Local entrepreneur Tony Pauldine said he is the man for the job. Tuesday evening in the conference room in the lower level of Canal Commons, he addressed his plan to save the historic Cahill Building. Nearly two dozen people were on hand to hear his plan and offer comments.
