“I am pleased the governor has decided to update the list of banned synthetic substances in New York State. Our communities have been flooded with new, dangerous analogues of synthetic marijuana since 2012, the last time the list was updated.
New York Army National Guard helicopter crews and four helicopters will conduct hoist rescue training with local sheriff and fire departments on Oneida Lake in the vicinity of Frenchman Island on Saturday. The helicopter crews and sheriff and local fire departments will exercise a scenario in which a fire department rescue boat retrives a victim in the water and calls for assistance from a National Guard helicopter.
The Fulton Board of Education held its annual reorganizational meeting and appointed its officers for the 2015-2016 school year. The board named David Cordone as president and returned Dan Pawlewicz as vice president and Barbara Hubbard as clerk. Cordone was later acknowledged in the regular meeting of the board of education for recognition of the amount of board development activities he has participated in over the years.
The Fulton Water Department Flushing Program will begin August 3. Flushing will begin in the morning and continue until sunset. This program should be completed no later than August 19.
The hearing will be at 7:10 p.m. July 27 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, West Oneida Street. The purpose is to discuss the city’s intent to apply for New York State Community Development Block Grant funds through the Regional Economic Development Council’s consolidated funding application. Oswego intends to apply for the funding to address the city’s infrastructure needs.
Nestles Building #30, located on Fay Street, and the adjoining parking lot, located on South Fourth Street were sold to Gary E. Springs of Spring Storage Park at the July 7 Common Council meeting. The council unanimously approved the sale. Springs intends to use the building and parking lot for warehousing and his U-Haul business.
Entergy Nuclear sponsored world class Grucci Fireworks display is traditionally the highlight of the Oswego Harborfest celebration. This year is the 28th year that Oswego Harborfest attendees will receive an unforgettable experience of witnessing and experiencing the Grucci Fireworks. The pyrotechnic spectacular will be launched from the Oswego Harbor breakwall and barges at 9:30 p.m. on July 25.
Christopher L. Kane of North Syracuse was arrested recently for allegedly selling heroin in Fulton. Further arrests and charges are possible at a later date, according to the Oswego County Drug Task Force.
The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of an ongoing project in Oswego County that will soon affect traffic using New York State Route 481 near the Public Safety Building in the city of Oswego. The goal of this project is to improve safety at the Route 481 intersections with Churchill Road and Oswego County Route 57.
This summer Dr. Graham Bradley of the SUNY Oswego Department of Atmospheric and Geological Sciences and student-researcher Jeremy Fontaine will try to rediscover the former locations of two historic forts in Oswego. They are collecting data at 18th century Fort George on the west side, and the 19th century support buildings at Fort Ontario.
