City Looks To Close Sheldon Beach During Harborfest

The action is being reconsidered to prevent any large parties at the beach, such as the one in 2013, which trashed the area. On the night of the fireworks, at 7 p.m., the Police Department will allow access only for viewing of the fireworks, and will close the area at the conclusion of the fireworks until 7 a.m. July 27.

Heritage Foundation Lecture On History of Oswego’s Cahill Building, West Side Pier

The rich history of the City of Oswego’s oldest commercial building and its many past uses will be the focus of discussion on July 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at the J. Richard Pfund Boating Center at 11 Lake St. in Oswego. Mark J. Slosek, Oswego city historian, will present a lecture on the history of the Cahill’s Fish Market/Walton & Willett Stone Store and the development of the west side pier.

Oswego Bookmobile Schedule Announced

Driving Books Home, Oswego’s Bookmobile, is following the NY State Library’s summer reading theme of Every Hero Has a Story for its summer programs. The bookmobile rolls into Oswego neighborhoods beginning on July 6. Each week during the months of July and August, at every stop, the bookmobile gives a free book and a snack to each child under the age of 18 in the Oswego community.

Scriba Man Convicted On Felony Drug Charges

On Thursday, an Oswego County jury convicted Emmanuel A. Frederick, of Scriba, of three separate counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony, for possessing more than a half an ounce of cocaine and for possessing cocaine and heroin with the intent to sell. Due to his prior felony conviction, Frederick faces a minimum sentence of 2 years and a maximum sentence of 12 years in state prison on each count.

Good Bye, Good Riddance to June 2015

June 2015 goes into the weather record book as not the best we’ve ever had. “It was a cool, dark and rather wet month,” according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service. “It was not a very nice June at all.” It was 1.7 degrees cooler and precipitation was 3.49 inches above average.
