The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of an ongoing project in Oswego County that will soon affect traffic using New York State Route 481 near the Public Safety Building in the city of Oswego. The goal of this project is to improve safety at the Route 481 intersections with Churchill Road and Oswego County Route 57.
This summer Dr. Graham Bradley of the SUNY Oswego Department of Atmospheric and Geological Sciences and student-researcher Jeremy Fontaine will try to rediscover the former locations of two historic forts in Oswego. They are collecting data at 18th century Fort George on the west side, and the 19th century support buildings at Fort Ontario.
Due to spawning season, state law requires no dredging be completed until the season is over. With the end of spawning season July 17, Mayor Ronald Woodward announced at a recent council meeting they hope to start dredging as soon as possible.
Local writer and artist Lisa R. Davis recently released her newest book, Fairies in Summer. This book is the third in a series, following Fairies in my Flowerbeds and Fairies in Spring Flowers. Each is an illustrated, rhyming poetry book of fairies made visible by wearing clothes made from flowers.
Councilors voted 6-1 to authorize the mayor to sign a proposal to hire Connecticut Planning and Development. The cost will be $20,000 and will be paid out of the 2015 Planning Budget (Fees for service – non-employee – consulting account). The consultant will “provide professional service in order to prepare a competitive and data-driven strategic plan to submit to CNY REDC” as the city is seeking a large pot of funding from the state.
Children have a tremendous role in the 28th edition of Oswego Harborfest. Once again there will be a wide variety of activities for youngsters attending this year’s event. The children’s committee has spent months creating an exciting array of things to do for the youngest festival attendees.
Minions, is the prequel to Despicable Me, and unlike so many prequels and sequels, it does not disappoint. The cute yellow fire hydrant lookalikes entranced children during the showing I attended from the opening credits.
Port City Historian talks about the history of Oswego’s oldest commercial building and the importance of preserving it for the future. The city’s historic buildings are “part of our character. They make us who we are today and they’re going to lead us into the future as well,” the president of the Heritage Foundation of Oswego County added.
As predicted, the water levels were regular Saturday morning and Paddlefest held a successful 10-mile trek of paddlers from Fulton to Oswego. Hundreds of people took part in the third annual Paddlefest event. After completion of the paddle, Rock the Locks was held at Oswego Yacht Club Marina, where there were musical performances, food vendors, drinks, children activities and more.
Bindy is 9 months old and a lot of fun. She is a dark tortie with marbled markings and extra toes on every foot! Bindy loves chasing laser lights and cuddling with her animal companions of the feline persuasion. Her foster home has dogs, but she ignores them.
