Two local small businesses were recognized during National Small Business Week at the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 17th Annual Small Business Excellence Awards luncheon in Syracuse on May 11. Small businesses are selected for the Excellence Awards based on their company’s longevity, innovation, sales growth, increased employment, ability to overcome adversity or community contributions.

As State Lawmakers consider making the property tax cap permanent, county leaders call on them to reduce local costs with permanent mandate relief, as they promised they would do when they enacted the cap three years ago.

Michael McAndrew has announced his candidacy for Oswego County District Attorney. Currently, McAndrew serves as principal court attorney to the Honorable Walter Hafner Jr. in Oswego County Court and State Supreme Court. His campaign is focused on returning the District Attorney’s Office to the people of Oswego County.

Local counties are paying as much as $90 to $130 or more each day to outboard prisoners at local jails in other regions. According to the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, counties were outboarding 525 prisoners to other jails last month, including 33 from Jefferson, Oswego and St. Lawrence counties.

“We want people to enjoy the season and maximize the health benefits of swimming by promoting safe practices,” said Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang. “We each play a role in preventing accidents such as drowning, injuries from improper handling of pool chemicals, and illnesses caused by germs in the places we swim.”
