County officials applaud legislation eliminating fee for veteran’s distinction on drivers’ licenses and non-drivers’ ID cards

Oswego County Clerk Michael C. Backus and Veterans Services Director Donna Kestner Thursday (Nov. 20) thanked Governor Andrew Cuomo for signing into law legislation that eliminates the fee for veterans seeking a distinction on their drivers’ licenses or non-driver ID cards. The legislation passed both the NYS Assembly and Senate unanimously earlier this year.

Light Up, Oswego Ushers In The Christmas Holidays

The all-day event will offer a wide variety of holiday events and activities. Events are planned at the Lake Ontario Conference Center, St. Joseph’s, City Hall and many other places. Downtown restaurants and businesses will be open throughout the day as well as after the tree lighting, offering holiday shopping and dining specials. Santa Claus will greet children at the 6 p.m. tree lighting and then invite them inside City Hall to hear their Christmas wish lists.

State Offices Closed Friday In Storm Areas

In light of the weather conditions associated with the continuing winter storm, state offices in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Franklin, Genesee, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, and Wyoming counties will be closed on Friday, November 21. A directed early departure for non-essential employees is hereby granted and employees do not have to charge credits.

Water Shut Off Planned Friday at Church and Duer Streets

On Friday, November 21, at 10 a.m., water will be shut off in the immediate area of Church Street and Duer Street on the city’s eastside. It will take approximately four hours for the necessary work to be completed. There is a likelihood that the Riley School water tank supply may be interrupted during this process.

Oswego County Health Department Begins Process of Closing Long Term Home Health Care Program

The Oswego County Health Department today (Nov. 20) announced it has begun the process of closing its Long Term Home Health Care Program. The State Department of Health recently approved the closure plan and the final closing date is pending the County Legislature’s approval. In August 2013, there were 18 patients in the program. By August 2014, 17 of those 18 patients had transitioned into alternate programs following the national and the state changes.

Half-Shire Historical Society News – November 21, 2014

The society hosted an after-hours gathering for the Pulaski-Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce on November 15. The event took place following a meeting of the Salmon River Fishing Museum Board and an informal meeting of the chamber of commerce nominating committee. On November 16, Erma Schroeder and Shawn Doyle had to turn around and reset the hall for a memorial luncheon given in memory of Thomas Knoeller, 54-year-old son of Margaret Kastler who died in Florida on October 22.
