County OKs Spending Plan For 2015

The Oswego County Legislature, after some lengthy debates, approved the 2015 spending plan. Legislators whittled some more off the tentative $54,479, 777 budget before it was passed 17-7-1 along party lines. The legislature’s seven Democrats were in opposition and Legislator John Martino was excused. The tentative tax levy was lowered to $53.8 million, and the increase dipped to 1.15 percent. The generic average tax rate fell from $7.59 per thousand of assessed value to $7.49.

Fulton Mayor Proposes Jobs Downsized For Zero Percent Tax Increase

Financially strapped city of Fulton taxpayers will see a zero percent increase in their current tax rate if the mayor’s $15.7 million proposed budget, published Tuesday (Dec. 9), is accepted by councilors next week. “We were able to balance the budget without a tax increase,” Mayor Ronald Woodward explained in an interview on Wednesday with Oswego County Today, by holding down spending and trimming the city’s workforce.

Masked Man Reportedly Robs Phoenix Pharmacy

Village and area police are still looking for a man who reportedly robbed narcotics from Phoenix’s drug store at gunpoint on Tuesday. The armed man was caught on surveillance camera as he walked into The Medicine Place on Route 57 in downtown Phoenix at approximately 4:40 p.m. where he allegedly stole drugs, but no cash.

Sex Offender Sentenced To Prison

Today (Dec. 8), Richard M. Switts, 40, of Mexico, was sentenced by the Hon. Donald E. Todd, Oswego County Court, to 10.5 years in state prison and 10 years post-release supervision based upon his conviction for multiple sexual offenses. On October 23, a jury convicted Switts of five counts of Criminal Sexual Act in the Second Degree (Class D Felony), two counts of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), and three counts of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree (Class B Misdemeanor).
