Standing alongside members of the New York State Police, Oswego County District Attorney Gregory Oakes today (Nov. 5) announced the arrest of 32-year-old Steven D. Szatanek for the murder of Anna Rose Shove. Szatanek from Camerondale Road, Baldwinsville, has been charged with second-degree murder, a class A felony, and second-degree manslaughter, a class C felony, in connection with the death this August of the 17-year-old from Ontario, NY. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years to life in prison.

Oswego Middle School will hold a backpack program fundraiser at the school on November 13 from 5-7 p.m. called “Empty Bowls.” The backpack program will assist families who find themselves in need of some additional support during school breaks.
The Richard S. Shineman Foundation has announced the last round of grants awarded for 2014, continuing to fund not-for-profit organizations from around Oswego County. This grant round enabled the Shineman Foundation to strengthen and help build the capacity of a number of first-time grantees.
