OSWEGO COUNTY – On July 3, 2026, at approximately 7:00 a.m., New York State Police responded to State Route 48 at Melrose Avenue in the town of Granby for a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a stand-up electric scooter.
The preliminary investigation determined that a 31-year-old male was operating the scooter northbound on State Route 48 when he failed to negotiate a turn, traveled onto the eastern shoulder, and struck a utility pole.
The operator was alert when emergency responders arrived and was initially believed to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Oswego Hospital, where he later succumbed to what is believed to be internal injuries.
The operator was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash; however, the helmet became dislodged during the collision.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause and manner of death.
Members of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene. Investigators ask anyone with information regarding this collision, or anyone who may have witnessed the incident, to contact the New York State Police in Fulton at 315-298-2112.
The investigation remains ongoing.
