John M. Canale Drive was officially unveiled Monday night prior to the city committee meetings. The 90-year-old former alderman has been a teacher for most of his life and served on the council for 20 years. Outside of teaching, Canale said he can’t think of a better job than being a city councilor for anyone to pursue. “We need as many people running for office as we can get,” he said.
With winter weather approaching and the snowy and slippery road conditions that go with it, the Fulton Police Department wants to remind motorists to follow the rules of the road. Some of the following reminders should be common sense, others may be confusing or unknown to some motorists. The most obvious of those rules in bad road conditions is to make sure motorists leave enough space between vehicles when driving.
Due to the growing homeless population in Oswego County, the Oswego County Department of Social Services has partnered with the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, Oswego County Opportunities, and Catholic Charities to utilize AmeriCorps members under the Economic Opportunity Program to help provide homeless services for many at-risk individuals. The program began earlier this fall.

The auction to benefit the Oswego Lighthouse restoration project, originally scheduled for October 25, has been rescheduled to April 25, 2015. Donations are still being accepted and are strongly encouraged from the community. “In order to maximize the auction as a fund raiser for the Lighthouse, we decided to reschedule the event to April 25, 2015,” said Mercedes Niess, executive director of the H. Lee White Marine Museum.
On Saturday, October 18, beginning at 7 a.m., George Street between East Seneca Street and State Route 104 will be closed to through traffic for an area construction project. The closure is only planned to last one day and regular traffic patterns are anticipated to resume
on Sunday, October 19.
The Oswego County Board of Elections office will be open extra hours on the following dates for those who wish to receive absentee ballot applications or file paperwork. The Board of Elections is located at 185 E. Seneca St., Oswego.
CNY Arts Center is pleased to announce an agreement has been reached with Cayuga Community College at the River Glen Plaza. CNY Arts Center will establish its primary location on campus, including Arts in the HeArt Gallery, in a move to merge the arts community with the college community. This will not only provide a home for the multi-arts center but also support opportunities and collaborations for students with access to the theatre and gallery space.
SUNY Oswego’s School of Business appears on Princeton Review’s 2015 list of “The Best 296 Business Schools,” an annual distinction of more than a decade’s standing. “External validation, whether from Princeton Review or U.S. News, affirms the quality of our business programs,” said Richard Skolnik, dean of the business school.
