Washington Boulevard will be closed Aug. 18

As part of the city sewer line upgrade, Washington Boulevard will be closed on Monday, August 18, from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. from the Forks of the Road to Fifth Avenue. Detour signs will direct traffic up Route 104 West to Fifth Avenue, and then back to Washington Boulevard. Limited traffic will have access to Raby’s Ace Home Center.

NY manufacturing boosts aluminum shipments to Port of Oswego

Shipments of aluminum products through the St. Lawrence Seaway to the Port of Oswego are expected to increase by 30 percent this year due to strong demand from aluminum sheet manufacturers catering to the automotive industry. The Port of Oswego is experiencing record levels of aluminum shipments and is forecasting that more than 120,000 metric tons will be delivered to the port in 2014.

State Police Continue Drowning Investigation

17-year-old Anna-Rose Shove’s death has been determined to have been due to drowning, according to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner. The manner of death is pending further investigation. Troopers are interested in anyone who may have seen the victim Sunday afternoon; particularly one man who was seen speaking with several women along the beach.

The Fulton City School District , in partnership with its Community Schools Initiative Grant Partners, will host a Community School Kickoff Carnival on August 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fulton Junior High School. Gary Thibodeau’s Supporters Plan Next Rally

At Washington Square Park in Oswego on Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., another rally is planned to show support of Gary Thibodeau. He was convicted in the disappearance of Heidi Allen on Easter of 1994. Supporters maintain his innocence and encourage authorities and community members seek the truth and justice for Heidi and Gary, according to Amanda Crawford, one of the event organizers.
