Oswego County Postpones Aerial Spraying Tonight

Aerial spraying of the Toad Harbor / Big Bay Swamp area near the north shore of Oneida Lake is postponed tonight, Saturday, August 30, due to uncertain weather. The forecast indicates varied conditions, such as rain and wind speeds, that would hamper spraying efforts. Weather permitting, aerial spraying will take place Tuesday, September 2.

Emergency Bridge Repairs Under Way In Brewerton

UPDATE: As of 8:30 p.m. Friday, August 29 – the Route 11 bridge over the Oneida River in Brewerton has been re-opened to traffic in both directions, with a 20 ton weight restriction. New York State’s emergency bridge repair contractor was onsite at the state Route 11 Bridge in Brewerton Friday (Aug. 29) assessing the work needed after the Department of Transportation declared the structure unsafe for vehicle traffic yesterday.

White Takes City To Task Over Parking Barricade

A city resident says the city is wasting money blocking off parking at property owned by his sister and her husband. The council points out the barricades are in place for safety reasons, to discourage college students, and others, from illegally parking in the area. There are so many cars there that it blocks access for residents who need to get to their property, one councilor pointed out.

SUNY Oswego enrolled nearly 2,200 new full-time students -- about 1,420 freshmen and 750 transfers -- for fall 2014, the most diverse and geographically far-flung class in college history.

SUNY Oswego boosts diversity, geographic draw with incoming class

Nearly 2,200 new students — more than 1 in 4 from traditionally underrepresented groups and the most in history from outside Central New York — started classes this fall at SUNY Oswego. About 1,420 freshmen and 750 transfer students enrolled, a large class but a bit fewer than last year’s boom of just more than 1,500 freshmen and nearly 800 transfers, according to SUNY Oswego Admissions Director Dan Griffin.

Oswego School Board Names Principal, Interim Principal

The board of education approved a new principal for Minetto Elementary to replace Dr. Dean Goewey who was recently named assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. An assistant principal will guide OHS until a replacement for Brian Hartwell, who moved on to a superintendent job in the county, is named. Also, three administrators received salary adjustments for the coming school year.
