With the summer now in full swing, the Oswego County Health Department is reminding people to protect themselves from mosquito bites to guard against diseases such as Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) and West Nile virus.
One of the teenagers accused of murdering a town of Granby man was in court Monday where he rejected a plea deal and asked to have his court appointed lawyer removed from the case “because he’s working for the DA, not me.”

A whole generation ago the city of Fulton was forced to close Stevenson Beach and North Bay Beach on Lake Neatahwanta during the middle of a summer dry spell and heat wave because the lake’s water could make people sick.
The Oswego County Democratic Committee on Thursday evening unanimously endorsed Lou Anne Rucynski Coleman for Family Court Judge. Coleman’s experience, integrity, and commitment to children and families were common themes during the committee’s discussion.
“The unique focus of this training is to bring area resources together with state and federal partners to review accepted practices for interoperable communications,” Oswego County E-911 Director Michael Allen said. “It focuses on the collaboration between various governments and agencies working together to ensure the flow of communication in the event of an emergency.”

A 15-year-old boy was injured Wednesday evening after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in the the city of Oswego. The driver of the vehicle has been charged with DWI. The teen’s injuries are said to be non-life threatening
The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services has awarded a $200 mini-grant to the VOW Foundation for the first Oswego County Substance Awareness Family Education Fair. The event is being planned for August 16 from noon – 5 p.m. at the Mexico VFW. The VOW Foundation was formed in 2013, named in honor of Victor Orlando Woolson who had a fatal reaction to synthetic drugs.
Celebrate Oswego County agriculture and all the local food it provides us on October 3 at the Fifth Annual Oswego County Harvest Dinner. The dinner is fast becoming a “can’t miss” event that showcases the quality and diversity of agriculture in Oswego County by featuring locally grown and sourced food. The event is hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County, with the support of local farmers and agriculture businesses, at The American Foundry.
There is one more area in Fulton where people can live where they work, correcting a measure that the mayor believes helped “kill downtown.”
