The Springboard Mural Project has launched another season of bringing some color to Oswego’s Riverwalk West. In 2009, it was originally a city sponsored community development plan to address graffiti issues. Dozens of young artists are collaborating on around 50 new murals to be painted along the walkway.
Granby Elementary School students put away their history books for a firsthand account of life during World War II. Holocaust survivor and author Marion Blumenthal Lazan spoke to fifth and sixth grade students at the school about life as a Jewish person in Nazi Germany.
In recognition of their efforts to encourage students to succeed, 65 educators from Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties were awarded State Senator Patty Ritchie’s Golden Apple Award for Teaching Excellence at a special ceremony held Friday evening at Pulaski’s historic Kallet Theater.
The finalists visiting Oswego hail from near — high schools in Oswego and Onondaga counties and 29 states in all — and far — Albania and Azerbaijan, Turkey and Tanzania, and 46 other countries. Judges advanced a most-ever 328 projects for the finals, each submitted by up to two students, among a record-shattering 842 entries.

Nearly three dozen students from around the county took control of the May meeting of the Oswego County Legislature. They came in as students and left as teachers. The students sat with their legislator counterparts and cast their votes during the meeting.
Three graduates of Auburn/Cayuga Community College have been honored by the college’s Alumni Association. The 2014 Alumni Awards were presented to Richard J. Knaul ’63, Melanie Trexler ’75 and Terry M. Wilbur ’08 at a special reception as well as at CCC Commencement on May 18.
New York State Police Superintendent Joseph A. D’Amico is saddened to announce the death of Trooper Christopher G. Skinner. Trooper Skinner was last assigned to the Traffic Incident Management Unit (TIM Detail), Troop C, Delaware County.
On Wednesday, Kelly M. Hartz, 47, of Williamstown, appeared in Oswego County Court, where she was sentenced to five years probation upon her conviction for Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree, a Class E Felony. As part of her sentence, she was ordered to pay $9,597.18 in restitution to Oswego County DSS over the next five years.
