The New York State Police in Pulaski is currently investigating a suspicious incident that occurred on May 8, along County Route 17 in the town of Constantia between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. A juvenile male was walking on the side of the roadway when he was approached by a black, four-door car having dark tinted windows.

Mayor Tom Gillen announced that the city of Oswego’s water treatment plant will be starting construction on upgrades to the facility. The initial work will involve rebuilding filters and will reduce the production capacity of the plant by 25 percent while the work is in progress, which is anticipated to be three weeks.

The House Armed Services Committee passed an amendment with unanimous support introduced by U.S. Representative Dan Maffei calling on the Department of Defense to continue work on a vaccine for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) and outline how to make the vaccine available to the public.

Following a six-month investigation into thefts of mail from student mailboxes in Oneida Hall at SUNY Oswego, University Police arrested Maurice Williams, 20, a resident of Oneida Hall, Thursday evening.
Officers charged him with three counts of grand larceny, a felony, and five counts of petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

The next meeting of the Upstate New York Amyloidosis Support Group will be held
on May 17 at Rochester General Hospital/Weiner Conference Room. The meeting will run from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. with guest speaker Dr. Anne Renteria/Hematologist from Boston Medical Center/amyloid clinic. Patients, caregivers, family and interested medical personnel are welcome.

West First Street will be closed next week, as part of the Sewer Separation Project. On May 12 a detour will be set up for the sewer separation project. All construction will be completed and West First Street will be open by May 16.

State Police in Pulaski are investigating a one-car fatal crash that occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. today (May 8) on State Route 69 in the town of Mexico. The driver reportedly is in critical condition. His passenger was transported to Oswego Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
