Fulton Moving Ahead With Financial Restructuring Board Assistance

The city’s budding partnership with the state’s new Financial Restructuring Board for Local Governments has moved from application to discovery as Fulton city leaders learn more about the program and Albany’s administrators identify their model. The NYS Restructuring Board for Local Governments was staffed with 10 appointees last fall to make recommendations to qualified local governments on improving fiscal stability, management and the delivery of public services. The board is empowered to provide awards of up to $5 million per municipality.

The Children’s Museum of Oswego is taking a giant leap forward as it will hold a presentation to reveal the results of its recently completed feasibility study. It will be on January 29 at 7 p.m. at the American Foundry. The board of trustees commissioned Dr. Robert “Mac” West of Informal Learning Experiences, Inc., to conduct the study. Dr. West’s study will help place CMOO into the dynamic community and includes an assessment of the current state of financial, cultural, and demographic aspects of our area.

The state comptroller’s report listed the Oswego district as mid to mid-high level to being susceptible to fiscal stress. The state told districts to cut down their fund balances; now we’ve done that and all of a sudden we are in ‘financial stress’? the board vice president asked. As far as the money we have, cash on hand, I feel pretty good about how much we have in reserves, another board member said.

Assemblyman Will Barclay released the following statement today (Jan. 22) following the Governor’s 2014-15 Executive Budget proposal. I am pleased to hear about the tax cuts for Upstate manufacturers. Cutting corporate taxes will give businesses more reason to stay as well as attract others. It was disappointing to hear so little about Central New York in the speech. I hope the budget reveals other details for our region.

Lisa A. Merritt, 51, of Fulton, was arrested after an investigation by the Fulton Police Department. According to police, Merritt is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a person over the course of a two-year period starting when the victim was 14 years of age. These incidents occurred at the suspect’s home in the city of Fulton.

City, Marine Museum Consider Pact To Preserve The Lighthouse

Mary Vanouse, community development director, requested authorization for the city to enter into a lease agreement with the museum for Oswego West Pierhead Lighthouse.
