Legislators approved contracting with Cayuga Centers of Auburn to provide MultiSystemic Therapy effective Jan. 1, 2014. It would end the Youth Advocate Program which has assisted families in the county for more than 15 years. Youngsters and adults shared their experiences with YAP in an effort to persuade lawmakers to save the program. A public hearing on the county budget plan will be held early next month.
Search and recovery efforts for the 174th Attack Wing MQ-9 Reaper aircraft that was lost in Lake Ontario on Tuesday, continued Thursday. As a result of these efforts, some aircraft debris was recovered along the shoreline of Lake Ontario. Initial reports of debris were reported through the local authorities and this information was forwarded to the 174th ATKW Emergency Operations Center.
On November 9, the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology hosted the annual Build ’Em and Bust ’Em Bridge Building Competition for 600 pupils from local elementary, middle and high schools throughout Central New York. Working during study halls and after school, student teams designed and built balsa wood bridges in the Kenney Middle School Technology Education classroom under the direction of technology teacher Gregory Bailey.
The Oswego High School Yearbook Club recently attended the Empire State Scholastic Press Association Fall Conference at Syracuse University, and was the recipient of a number of awards related to the 2013 edition of The Paradox. The overall year book received the state organization’s highest award of Gold Level rating, identifying the program as one of the best in New York State.

Hannibal Central School District officials have been exploring a variety of options to provide immediate communication with families when issues arise, and soon a new tool will be in place that will provide the mass communication service that the district has been seeking. During a meeting Wednesday evening, school board members reviewed the new communication tool, Global Connect.
