Dr. Mather Retires After 52 Years Of Service In Oswego County

After providing care to the community for more than 52 years, Joseph Edmund Mather, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. obstetrician/gynecologist of Oswego County OB-GYN, P.C., has announced he will retire at the end of June. Dr. Mather Sr. has been providing women’s health care in Oswego since 1961 while maintaining privileges at Oswego Hospital until his retirement.

2013 Oswego “Rock the Locks” Paddlefest Changes Course

The Oswego “Rock the Locks” Paddlefest Committee decided Friday, June 28, to move the paddling event to the Oswego Harbor for the safety of the paddlers. “Due to flood warnings, debris in the river and strong currents from recent storms, we decided to move the event to the Oswego Harbor,” said Jackie Sheffield, associate director of the Oswego YMCA. “We are asking paddlers to meet at Wright’s Landing in Oswego instead of paddling through the locks.”

Novelis Family Park is located in Franklin Square on the west side of Oswego and will run from July 26 through 28.

When they're ready, some of the older kids get together for a friendly game of soccer.Usually, when Claudia Chetney steps onto the soccer field her objective is clear – do whatever it takes to help her team win. For the past several weeks, she has undertaken a variation of that mission. The Junior Girl Scout is ensuring that children with disabilities can play soccer for the fun of it – and not worry about winning or losing or even what the score might be. The program allows everyone the chance to learn the basics of soccer and enjoy the game without having to worry about their skill level.

Oswego County Offices Begin Summer Hours July 1

The Oswego County Legislature has adopted summer hours for departments in the Legislative Office Building at 46 E. Bridge St., Oswego. Beginning July 1, and ending Aug. 30, offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Department of Motor Vehicles offices in Oswego, Fulton and Pulaski will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. during July and August.

Former police dog Rika adjusts to retired life

“She is basically a pet,” said Sgt. Craig Westbrook. “Just like any dog, you take her for a walk or throw a Frisbee. All that stuff I didn’t do when she was a police dog, because you don’t want them to associate a tennis ball or a Frisbee with fun. Then when you’re trying to use them to work she comes across a tennis ball and wants to play catch.”

Cayuga CC Board of Trustees approves $30.3 million budget for 2013-14, moves on to county for action

At its regular monthly meeting tonight (June 26), the Cayuga Community College Board of Trustees approved the College’s 2013-14 budget, which includes a 3.5 percent, or approximately $140 a year, increase in tuition. The 2013-14 annual tuition will be $4,090 for full-time students, and the part-time rate will be $165 per credit.
