Group Is Seeking More Friends

Volunteers work on a previous project at Great Bear SpringFriends of Great Bear has scheduled an invitational meeting for people interested in helping at Great Bear Springs Recreational Area. Great Bear Springs is a non-motorized, share the trails recreational area, encompassing over 400 acres, with several miles of marked trails, located adjacent to Route 57 in the town of Volney. The meeting will be held at the Fulton Y on April 17 at 7 p.m., room D.

Fulton School Board adopts 2012-2013 budget, but vote is not unanimous

The Fulton School Board adopted the 2013-14 budget Tuesday night. It will be voted on by the public next month. The budget was not adopted unanimously. The vote was 4 yes, 2 no, and 1 abstention. The board members who voted against the budget were concerned about the tax levy increase.

Proposed Oswego School Budget A Little ‘Smoother’

At Tuesday night’s school board meeting, Superintendent Bill Crist presented a “smoother” version of his 2013-14 spending plan. Under the state’s “smoothing” plan, the district can defer for the 2013-14 school year Employee Retirement System contributions of $738,000. That allows the district to reduce the tax rate and not have to consider as many staff reductions. The board will vote on the tentative budget on April 24.
