Oswego County legislators will vote Thursday on a proposal to allow the Probation Department to use a GPS tracking system and electronic bracelets to monitor criminals who are awaiting court action. If approved by the Legislature, the system can help alleviate jail overcrowding by providing around-the-clock tracking of offenders in their homes.

Fulton Board of Ed Appoints Phoenix Teacher to High School Assistant Principal’s Job
The man who guided his football team through a tragedy is the new assistant principal at Fulton’s G. Ray Bodley High School. The Fulton Board of Education approved the hiring of Jeffrey Charles Tuesday night.
He was the head coach of the team when one of his players, Ridge Barden, collapsed on the field last year during a game against Homer and died.
Union Official: Proposed Cuts Would Undermine Fire Department’s Ability To Protect Oswego
With several dozen fellow firefighters looking on from the audience, the president of the Oswego Firefighters’ Association made an impassioned plea for the mayor and council to reconsider the proposed cuts to the department in the tentative 2013 city budget.
Historical Area Of Oswego River ‘Trashed’
On Sunday, a group of local Oswego paddlers along with visiting paddlers were exploring the historic Battle Island area of the Oswego River. Passing by the south end of the island, opposite Battle Island Golf Course, some type of manmade items could be seen from the kayaks on the island. What they found was an abandoned encampment where a ruined tent/clothing, spoiled food and human waste were left.
