As of Jan. 1, 2013, the mayor’s proposed spending plan will become the official city budget for the new year. Councilors voted 7-0 Monday night to approve Mayor Tom Gillen’s budget. Some amendments were passed that juggled some funds around, but it is still roughly the same dollar amount as the mayor originally proposed.

Fifteen years ago Tracy Doyle saw an opportunity to help local children in need. After learning about local people who were down on their luck and had children who were not expecting anything for Christmas, he decided to do something to help. “We don’t do it for anything other than we can help people who don’t have much,” Doyle said.

The Fulton YMCA Speed Demon community swim team is a tenant at the Granby Elementary School swimming pool. They rent time to use the pool for practices and meets because the YMCA does not have a competition-sized pool. The timing system in the pool has been balky at best for several years. It often malfunctions. The team stepped up when the school district asked for help to buy a new timing system.
The New York State Police in Fulton arrested Brandi Thorpe, 23, of 126 W. Third St., Oswego, for third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child on 11/20/12 following a violent outburst where she allegedly attacked her sister, Kathy Whalen.
On Friday at 11:53 p.m., members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Volney Fire Department and Menter Ambulance Service responded to a one-car fatal motor vehicle accident on Silk Road in Volney. The driver, Karen Henderson of Fulton, was killed when her vehicle exited the roadway and struck a tree, according to deputies.
State Police in North Syracuse arrested 46-year-old Kevin J. Blair, from Fulton. He was charged with Criminal Contempt 2nd, a class “A” misdemeanor. Blair was arrested Friday after he violated an order of protection issued to his ex-girlfriend, troopers said.
