Public Hearing Set July 23 Regarding Bus Issue

The public hearing will be held at 7:10 p.m. July 23 in the Council Chamber at City Hall.
Proponents of the change say it will help improve the quality of life in neighborhoods, especially in the First and Third wards. However, the owners of the two bus companies in the city say the regulations will unfairly infringe on their right to conduct business.

Ritchie Announces Free Mosquito Treatments For Homeowners

Senator Patty Ritchie holds a package of the larvicide treatments which act to kill mosquitoes before they develop to their biting stage. Looking on is Chairman of the Oswego County Legislature Fred Beardsley.The free treatments, packets of a regionally produced (in Oriskany) larvicide that can be used to treat standing water, including small pools, bird baths and ornamental ponds, are being made available to homeowners through a partnership with the Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Jefferson, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego and St. Lawrence counties.

West Nile Virus Found in Oswego County

Inga Back, Acting Public Health Director of the Oswego County Health Department, announced this morning (July 10) that the New York State Department of Health found evidence of West Nile virus in two collections of mosquitoes in the village of Central Square. There are no known human cases of West Nile virus in Oswego County at this time.

State Police Investigate Suspicious Death in Brewerton

At approximately 5:30 p.m. today (July 9), State Police in Hastings responded to an area behind the “Castaways” Restaurant located at 916 County Route 37 in the Town of Hastings, for a body found in the Oneida River near the boat docks. The body was positively identified as 34-year-old Michael C. Thompson, of 5864 Mudd Mill Road in Brewerton.

‘Drunk Bus’ Debate Rolls On In Oswego Council Chamber

At its meeting Monday, the Common Council voted to hold a public hearing for a proposed code changes for Chapter 228, taxicabs (buses), of the code of the city of Oswego. It will be held at 7:10 p.m. July 23 in the Council Chamber at City Hall. Prior to the vote, the public weighed in on the issue.
