Temperatures are expected to fall throughout the day – and some more snow as well.
Fulton residents will see the first tax increase in four years and only the second in the last eight years as the result of the budget adopted Tuesday night by the Common Council.
The $15.1 million budget spends $160,000 less than the 2011 budget but because the city lost almost $8 million in taxable property this year, taxes on the remaining properties will be slightly higher.
The budget increases the tax levy 1.17%.
Also in March, the Oswego City School District says goodbye to the middle school principal and sees its tax deal challenge dismissed. And, two school district employees were honored for saving a child’s life.
Also in April, a popular OHS graduate died in a Navy training exercise. Joyce Malone was finally sentenced and Oswego’s police chief announced his retirement.
We probably won’t need a snow shovel, too much, tomorrow. But we’ll have to bundle up, that’s for sure as temperatures start in the 20s then tumble.
Fulton city lawmakers are poised tonight to vote to ignore the state’s limit on tax levy increases, even though the budget they will approve is well below the limit.
The Common Council holds a public hearing and vote on the 2012 budget beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
